Simple as That! How to Help

The picture is a cute way of dealing with how life can feel from time to time…

And it is pretty much universal…

And taking a look at mental health…
There are people I know who have battled or are battling anxiety, anorexia, bipolar, postpartum depression… Some short episodes and some not so short…

There are people who refuse to
leave their house after a traumatic incident…

The grief and depression from the loss of a loved one some times lingers for weeks, months, years…

Soooo how do we deal with it?

The Christian “correctness” is have more faith, pray more, read this book, listen to how somebody’s cousin, twice removed, found out it was all because the weren’t getting enough ruffage…

Please DO NOT think I am saying to ignore turning to God… The exact opposite… Turn to God! Pray! Please pray!

You can never pray too much!

But also realize we also have a physical reason, not just spiritual…

Why is it always such a hard thing for people to understand that MENTAL HEALTH is that HEALTH

We have an illness!

Simple as that!

Why was it in the afternoon, one day, my husband was fine walking around grocery shopping and a few hours later started to feel lousy… Two days later he had his appendix out?

He had a physical health issue…

Where is the tipping line for having diabetes or have pain because you going to need your gallbladder out?

They were not healthy!

It’s a known fact that adults who don’t have a healthy diet can get diabetes… And when they do… Do the their friends rag on them? They basically have a self-inflicted health issue (that’s what I had done until I lost weight)…

So… If you know someone and don’t know what to do…

Pray for them…

There a spiritual part…YES! Just like anyone else dealing with health issues…

Finding out you have cancer is depressing…

A broken collar bone at the start of a holiday…

Slipping in the ice and landing in your backside… Now that’s a real bummer, especially at Christmas…

These are likely short term and will resolve…

My mental meltdown was beyond that… I’d been building up to it for a long time… And a fight is was/is…

Those who had had depression that resolved relatively short term battles… I’m happy, plessed you that you have rebounded…

However you will never know the gravity, oppressive, darkness, evil thoughts battles that have gone inside my head…

Some people, family, friends, have seen more than others…

But know one has seen it all… except God…

With any illness there is a spiritual element… The who, what, where, when, how and why…

People like to know… A broken arm… Fell out of a tree… Foot pain… Yup, the kids have have been playing with Lego…

We don’t get all the answers…

When it’s mental health and then add in stigma!

Now ever seen a movie where someone shoots a bullet that ricochets all around? Try a few hundred or thousand? At my worst it seemed like hundreds of thousands… Welcome to my dark void I was in without God in control, correct meds (2+ years to get the doses right) and and the ability to control my thoughts and discern what which are healthy or not…

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ 2 Cor 10:3

… And for some reason the meds might not stay working as well… Med changes are nasty… Not something I ever want to do again… but as we age our bodies change…

So how do you support someone? Praying, prayers, pray… Anytime you think of us at least put up a popcorn prayer (2 second prayer) if you can’t stop thinking about us please pray longer we may be in a tough situation…

Other than that, ask… Sincerely ask is there anything I can do? A ride to a appointment? Someone they can send a quick text to asking them to pray… Food? Groceries? Pick up prescriptions?
Just be there…

Just be there… In silence to let us know we are not alone… And you are praying… Is there anything you should/could be praying for specifically…
