God and Pharaoh’s Heart

Ex 11:7 Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites. All the officials of Egypt

God keeps His promises… He had promised to free the Israelites and now the time had arrived….

Moses and Aaron speak to the Pharaoh and he says no… God evoked plagues begin… Pharaoh’s magicians can reproduce the first 4 plagues… But it would seem they knew had reached the end of what they could do and told Pharaoh¹…

Starting with the 5th… the rest of the plagues will effect the Egyptians only…

God displays His strength and power to everyone – Egyptians, the Israelites and any other citizen of other nations that HE is GOD and that the Israelites are His chosen people…

Of the 10 plague only the first 4 affected both Egyptians and Hebrews (Israelites).

  1. Staff to Snake
  2. Blood reproduced
  3. Frogs reproduced 1st leave
  4. Gnats can’t
  5. Flies only Egyptian’s
  6. Live stock
  7. Hail
  8. Locusts
  9. Darkness
  10. Death for Egypt’s Firstborn

Exodus chapters 7-13 really tell the story of Moses and the Israelites departure from Egypt.

And several times it says something like this:
But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart again, so he refused to let the people go.

Hardened his heart…

That didn’t appear right? Why would God harden someone’s heart? God is love right?

But I think I finally understand…

Think about a teenager and a dad and look this scenario from the dad’s view…

The teen took the car without permission and was out later knowing that there will be a reckoning but chooses to do it anyway…

Later the teen tries to sneak but dad had been waiting for them…

Dad looks at the teen and shakes his head knowing he must deliver the consequences…

Taking car and stayed out late night

Level #1 for being out late and jump to level #3 in dealing with the car.

The teen spontaneously tries to explain… He/she was best friends house studying and…

Dad let’s out a sigh and his shoulders slump down…

Level #4 for lying

Then dad smells and notices the smell of alcohol and marijuana.

Level #10 driving under the influence and the drugs and drinking.

Hebrews 3:7-8
Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for forty years.

The sin came BEFORE the hardening

Pharaoh KNEW there was the Hebrew God… Pharaoh’s advisor’s would have reported 600,000 men worshipping their God.

Back in this age Pharaohs were considered one of the more important of all the Egyptian gods if not being superior to them. So Pharaoh didn’t want to address the possibility there were god’s anywhere. He was “still above them all”…

Every time Pharaoh rejected God he was going down a level. Just like the teen, he repeatedly chose to scoff at “god”

He made false promises which then he promptly broke…

God could only sigh and shake his head when he hardened Pharaoh’s heart. The sin came before and God had no choice

It’s the same as being warned not to shake a bottle of pop before opening it… We already know the consequences… And so does God… So why are we surprised with the hardening?

Can we have hardened hearts today?

To me… Yes…

Do you have a hardened heart? If you are reading this… You don’t

As I deal with mental health and my walk with God I no longer ask why… He isn’t the cause… He really isn’t… It’s man’s free will that everyone has… Like pebbles dropped into a pond we see how the ripples intersect…

However… God and I have had some heated and loud discussions in the past few weeks… It’s actually ok to be mad at God… He already knows you are so just yell!

I yelled “I know I can’t ask why! I know I can’t ask why! Then after getting done with that vent, I was truly ready start to rejoice and be still to know that God with me…

If we keep holding our anger or our frustrations in there it’s only one way we are going… I don’t want to go that way… And the longer you stay away… The harder it is to hear God’s voice… Kinda like a hardening of something…

Blessings everyone…

Huggles and loves and prayers

¹So the magicians were amongst the first to know that there is a true God.
